Kintsugi Repair Class in Okitsu — Opening Soon
Mend with gold.

Why the repair is worth more than the original.
A broken bowl can be glued invisibly. Kintsugi does the opposite: the join is filled and then drawn over in gold, so the history of the object is the most valuable line on it.
We are building this around a working studio in Okitsu rather than a classroom. Dates, the number of guests and what you can repair in one session are still being settled with the artisan.
If you would like to be told when it opens, send a request. We will write to you before it goes on the site.

What it will be
Being prepared now.
A bowl you repaired, carried home the same day
The aim is a finished piece in one session, not a piece left to cure.
The gold line where the break was
Drawn by you, guided by the artisan.
A private table
One group at a time. No strangers beside you.
Opening soon
The shape of the session is set; the dates are not.
Now
In preparation with the artisan
Duration, group size and what can be completed in one sitting.

Practical
Expected to include
- A private session — one group at a time
- Materials and tools
- Interpretation between Japanese and English
- The repaired piece, to take with you
Still being settled
- The exact duration and the number of pieces per guest.
- Whether real urushi lacquer is used — it can cause a skin reaction, and we will state this clearly before anyone books.
- The venue in Okitsu.
Where it will be
Okitsu, on the old Tōkaidō, in the same town as two KAIDO houses.
Questions we are asked
- When does it open?
- We are not putting a date on it until the artisan and the venue are fixed. Send a request and you will hear from us first.
- Can I bring my own broken piece?
- That is one of the things we are working out. Tell us what you have in the request.
- How much will it be?
- Quoted per request, as with our other experiences.
