About This Stay
Ejiri was once a post town on the Tokaido where official horses were changed and rested — a "tenma" town. The neighbourhood this house stands in is still called Tenma 1-kumi. Travellers' horses were received here, rested, and sent on to the next stretch of road. TENMA Ejiri is the modern form of that. A house that receives the companion of the journey — your bicycle. The glass-fronted earthen-floor room on the ground floor is not merely an entrance. It is a cycle garage, built so your bike can come indoors and rest. At night, with the light on inside, the silhouette of a bicycle shows through the glass. A floor pump, basic tools and local route notes are ready for you. If you are travelling without a bicycle, two cross bikes are yours to use at no charge. From the east exit of Shimizu Station, past the port and out to the Miho no Matsubara pine grove, is about 8km one way on flat roads. A neighbourhood bike shop three minutes away can help with maintenance questions and parts. Receive, rest, send on — the work of a tenma station, carried into the present.

- There is no on-site parking. When arriving by car, please use a nearby coin parking lot (around 400 yen per day).
- The indoor garage holds up to 4 bicycles, all floor-standing. Two of those spaces are normally taken by our complimentary rental bikes, leaving room for 2 guest bicycles. If you are bringing 3 or more, we will move the rentals into storage — please let us know before booking.
- Please refrain from full-scale repairs, bike washing, or work using large amounts of oil or grease.
- Motorcycle use is by prior consultation before booking.
